Transend wins NZ$1.5m Hong Kong contract

Transend Worldwide Ltd, New Zealand Post’s international subsidiary, has won a contract worth more than NZ$1.5 million to provide over 650 Postal Delivery Sorting Systems to Hongkong Post.

The competitive tender to supply the Postal Delivery Sorting Systems was run by the Hong Kong Government Supplies Department.

All of the Postal Delivery Sorting Systems will be manufactured in Petone by Vision Concepts Ltd and supplied to Hongkong Post in three shipments from December through to April 2003.

Transend General Manager Bruce Heesterman said the contract followed the previous supply of over 250 units to Hongkong Post over the past 18 months.

“With simple adjustments to suit the height of delivery staff and the volume and size of mail being sorted, the ergonomic and modular design of the Postal Delivery Sorting Systems offers considerable advantages over the wood-framed sorting cases that have been traditionally used by postal agencies worldwide.

“As postal agencies seek to become more efficient, they are recognising the value of improving the productivity of their delivery staff and the occupational health and safety benefits of their equipment.

“Using the Postal Delivery Sorting Systems supplied by Transend earlier this year Hongkong Post won a Bronze Award in the category of ‘New Technological Development’ run by the Occupational Safety and Health Council of Hong Kong.”

In a separate supply agreement with Hongkong Post, Transend will provide consultancy services in January and February 2003 to implement the Postal Delivery Sorting Systems throughout its delivery network.

Postal Delivery Sorting Systems are used widely throughout New Zealand Post’s 164 delivery branches and have been sold to Australia, Iceland, Malaysia, Malta, Portugal, Sweden, Trinidad and Tobago.
