DHL in Pakistan mail deal

The Pakistan unit of DHL Worldwide Express and the Pakistan Post Office have signed an agreement for booking of co-branded parcels.

“The agreement is a first step toward modernization, commercialization and decentralization of Pakistan Post to compete in the present global environment,” said Communication Secretary Iftikhar Rasheed at the signing of the agreement last week.

Through the agreement, the Pakistan Post will gain access to DHL’s international air express network in 220 countries. Pakistan Post Office will maintain a special counter in selected centers across the country.

The agreement will be implemented in three phases. Phase one has been rolled out at 29 major post offices. The remaining phases, at a total of 76 centers, will be completed in 2003.
