Amazon reportedly planning click & collect drive-up grocery store in Seattle

Amazon may be planning to open a click & collect drive-up grocery store in Seattle, according to local reports. In an article published on Friday (19 August), high-tech news website Geekwire said that it had uncovered permit filings with the City of Seattle for a “Project X” facility in Seattle’s Ballard neighbourhood.

The Geekwire report conceded that the plans make no mention of Amazon – but it points out “the description of the project matches, almost exactly, the language in planning documents for Amazon drive-up grocery stores planned for San Francisco”.

Amazon has been ramping up its grocery business and has also been expanding its last-mile delivery capacity, with more parcel lockers in Europe and a range of click & collect options.
