Deutsche Post World Net acquires Italian parcel company Ascoli

Deutsche Post World Net will be acquiring Casa di Spedizioni Ascoli S.p.A., Milan effective January 15, 2003. This parcel company is a former subsidiary of trans-o-flex-Schnelllieferdienst GmbH, Weinheim. Approval has been granted by the responsible anti-trust authorities.

With the acquisition of the parcel company, Deutsche Post can round out and further improve its service offer in the Italian express market. Ascoli will be part of the Euro Express European parcel network that is to be merged together with Danzas under the DHL umbrella in the framework of the “STAR” group-wide value creation program. Ascoli is particularly strong in heavy, palletized parcels logistics, and thus is the ideal link to Danzas’ part-load business in the Euro Express network.
With approximately 400 employees, Ascoli achieved 2002 revenues of around EUR 80m.

Deutsche Post currently has a 24.8 percent stake in the German trans-o-flex, and is planning a full acquisition.
