The US Postal Service (USPS) has stated that it will only ship Samsung Galaxy Note 7 devices via USPS Retail Ground/Parcel Select, because of the potential safety hazards pertaining to lithium ion batteries.

In statement issued yesterday (12 October), the USPS said that the change took effect on 2 September.

“Suspect batteries or any damaged device containing lithium-ion must be properly packaged and travel via ground transportation,” said USPS.

The USPS statement added: “Damaged and recalled lithium batteries continue to be prohibited in international mail, including mail to and from Army Post Offices, Fleet Post Offices and Diplomatic Post Offices.”
