Posti buys food logistics company
Posti is buying Kuljetus Kovalainen, a Finnish company specialising in food and temperature-controlled transport. Jaakko Kaidesoja, head of Posti’s transport services, said that joining forces with Kuljetus Kovalainen will enable Posti to offer extensive logistics services in Northern Finland, Ostrobothnia and Lapland.
Kuljetus Kovalainen has about 180 personnel and net sales of around €15m. The transaction will not affect existing employment relationships. Kovalainen’s fleet of approximately 100 vehicles will be transferred to Posti.
The Finnish postal company has been building up its presence in this market. In June, Posti bought Veine, another company which specialises in food logistics and temperature-controlled transport.
Posti’s food logistics services now include meal deliveries in about 100 municipalities, delivery of food purchased at online stores, beverage logistics for brewing industry operators, B2B supply chain solutions for dried food and transport of bakery products.
Meanwhile, Posti has also announced that Nikolay Voinov, President of Itella Russia and member of the Posti Group Executive Board, will be leaving the company to pursue other opportunities. Voinov’s last day of employment with Posti will be 18 November. Martin Nilsson, CFO of Itella Russia, has been appointed acting President for the company while the search for a new President continues.
