Lemuir Group and Danzas join in new venture
The Lemuir Group, India’s leading freight forwarding and logistics service providing company, and Danzas, the logistics subsidiary of Deutsche Post World Net, have joined hands and floated a new India-based entity called Danzas Lemuir Pvt Ltd.
In the new company, the Lemuir Group holds the majority 51 per cent stake while Danzas the balance 49 per cent.
Mr Snehal Parikh, Managing Director of Lemuir Group, will be the Chairman of the joint venture and Mr T. Menezes from Danzas, the Chief Executive Officer.
According to the agreement, Danzas Lemuir will provide business across India with access to a portfolio of one-stop supply chain solutions including air and ocean freight, less than container load consolidation to and from India, customs clearance and project forwarding. The firm’s thrust areas for marketing, according to informed sources, will be automotive, healthcare, electronics and consumer goods.
The Mumbai-headquartered Danzas Lemuir will have offices and warehousing facilities in 15 locations such as Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Goa, Pune, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Aurangabad, Agra, Moradabad, Kanpur, Ludhiana, Hyderabad and Bangalore. It will employ nearly 360 people.
It might be noted that for about 20 years, the Lemuir Group had had business relationship with AEI, the US freight forwarding company. AEI was subsequently acquired by Danzas, which again was taken over by Deutsche Post, the German logistics service provider. Deutsche Post also acquired DHL and merged it into Danzas.
The Rs 300-crore plus Lemuir Group, through its flag ship, Lee & Muirhead and Lemuir Air Express, has been in freight forwarding business for both ocean and air cargo, customs clearance, warehousing and distribution, project forwarding and other related activities for nearly half a century. It has a network throughout the country and employs about 1,000 people. The joint venture, according to the company sources, is expected to place Lemuir’s experience and success on a new platform for international transportation and integrated logistics.
For Danzas, the partnership with the Lemuir Group marks a significant milestone as it will place the company in a premier position in an important emerging market to serve both the Indian and international business, the sources added.
