French La Poste pleased with development of European parcel and express business

So far, the French La Poste is basically pleased with the development of its European parcel and express business. At a press conference last week the company announced that the brands and companies grouped together under the roof of GeoPost Holding had enjoyed a positive development during 2002. An estimate ventured by the CEP News sets their turnover at over 2.1bn euros, which amounts to an approx. 5% increase.

An even more important factor was that many of the business targets originally set in 1999 had been reached, said Mr Claude Béglé, who is responsible for Geopost’s activities in Northern Europe and also the non-executive chairman of DPD. Mr Béglé mentioned the acquisition of 85% of the voting power within DPD and other firms in France, Britain and the Benelux states. In addition to the strategic alliance with FedEx, partnerships had been agreed with the posts of Italy, Spain and Sweden.
