Russian Post service sales up 26.7% on year in 2002
Russia’s postal industry took 28 billion rubles in sales in 2002, up 26.7% on the year, according to materials prepared for the Communications and IT Ministry’s board meeting Tuesday.
The postal service’s core activities generated 19.2 billion rubles in sales in 2002, up 28.1% on the year.
Russia’s postal service is made up of about 2,000 town and district post offices and over 40,000 main post offices.
A state company called Russian Post was set up in 2002 as part of the postal service restructuring plan.
Later on Russian Post is expected to become a joint stock company under government control.
The quality of postal services has been steadily improving in 2002, the ministry said.
In 2002, 85% of mail was delivered within required time frames, up from only 65-70% in 2000.
The Universal Postal Union noted for the first time in 2002 that the Russian postal service had improved its international mailing service, the ministry said.
