Emirates Post and Deutsche Post sign MOU for enhanced cooperation
Emirates Post and Deutsche Post have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore enhanced business cooperation between the two postal corporations, including expanded scope for the Emirates Post’s international mail transit hub located at Dubai International Airport.
In addition to expanding the scope of the Emirates Post mail transit hub, the two sides agreed to explore the possibilities of Emirates Post using Deutsche Post’s mail hub facilities based in Frankfurt.
The MoU envisages further cooperation in enhancing the Emirates Post’s mail hub services, including the possibility of implementing the Mail Transportation through Consolidation Hubs functionality. The new facility, to be operated by a newly formed company, will allow postal operators to achieve lower transportation costs through containerization, consolidation and co-operation.
The two postal corporations further agreed to explore new innovative ways of enhancing mail-related operations covering the Middle East and South Asia, as well as study the possibility of setting up a joint venture company for electronic dispatch of global mail to a print facility in Dubai for further dispatch within the region.
The MoU has further significance for Emirates Post considering that Deutsche Post now wholly owns DHL. Emirates Post last year entered into a strategic alliance with DHL to launch the cross-branded courier product International Express.
Deutsche Post is a global company offering solutions in mail, express, logistics and financial services. The group has now been restructured with the main company, Deutsche Post World Net, divided into three distinct units – Deutsche Post, Mail, DHL and Postbank. – (menareport.com)
