U.S. Postal Service may seek rate increase 2 years early
The U.S. Postal Service may push for its next increase on postage rates as early as next month and two years sooner than scheduled, according to postal officials. The Postal Service has yet to convince Congress to pass legislation reducing its contribution to a federal-government retirement fund. The agency is burdened by $3bn in debt, and a Congressional approval of the bill could delay the next rate increase until 2006.
