UPS worldwide named in “BusinessWeek 50”
UPS, in its first year of eligibility as part of the S&P 500, has been named in BusinessWeek magazine’s BusinessWeek 50.
The list, published in the magazine’s special annual spring issue, recognizes America’s best-performing major companies. The starting point for the magazine’s editors always is the S&P 500, to which UPS was added last year.
“The exclusive list favors companies that boost revenue without sacrificing margins and remain resilient amid stock market declines,” the magazine wrote. “And for the first time, we have also factored in a long-term debt-to-capital ratio to reward those that achieve growth without accruing heavy debt.”
BusinessWeek went on to note there had been heavy turnover in this year’s rankings, including the addition of four newcomers “that became eligible for the ranking for the first time this year.”
UPS debuted at No. 14 on the list, the best rating of any newcomer. UPS also is the only transportation company rated among the nation’s best performing firms.
