TNT revenues grow in Russia

TNT Express delivery service upped its revenues from the Russian market by 40 percent last year and doubled its volumes over the past two years, a company official said Tuesday.

TNT saw growth in all its services in Russia last year, Harro van Graafeiland, the country general manager said at a news conference, without providing exact volumes.

He said TNT’s volumes from Russia’s regions showed the most growth, expanding 70 percent on the year.

TNT Express Company announced that its business in Russia surged by 40% in 2002. The company’s turnover increased twofold during last two years. The highest growth rate (70%) was demonstrated by Domestic Express service (dispatches from regions of Russia). Demand for TNT Express services is also rising in the Ural, Siberia and Povolzhye (Volga) regions. The company increased the number of serviced cities in Russia to 5,500 in 2002.

The sector of express international parcel and freight delivery was marked by a 50% growth. In is connected with extending of Economy Express, previously a Europe-aimed service, over all world markets as well as with quick customs registration in TNT Express.

The amount of international extra urgent sending grew including such services as 09:00 Express (guaranteed delivery by 9 a.m. next day to European cities), 12:00 Express (guaranteed delivery by 12 a.m. next day to big cities all over the world) and the Priority service. In mail delivery sector a slight decline in demand was observed in 2002, which is linked to increased e-mail and Internet use in Russia.

In 2002 TNT express company made the express delivery services available to small-scale and medium-sized enterprises. The research carried out by the company in accordance with a specially elaborated Customer Loyalty Measurement (CLM) program indicated that 35% of Russian clients use TNT services alone, while 70% assess the service quality as high.

In 2002 the Russian branch of TNT Express Company was accredited by the international Investors in People program (IiP), which concerns personal development of the staff. The IiP implementation helped curtail employee turnover by 50% and rise employees’ contentment with work in the company to 98.6%.
