Autumn date for UK GBP40m postal centre

WORK is well under way on Royal Mail’s new distribution hub near Rugby.

The pounds 40 million Crick site, at the Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal, will be operational by the autumn and will employ nearly 600 people.

The site will be at the centre of Royal Mail’s new transport network which will use roads, rail and air.

Mail from all over the country will be processed at the site, which will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Paul Bateson, Royal Mail’s managing director of logistics solutions, said the distribution centre was a vital part of the firm’s plan to create a simple and cost-effective transport network.

He said: “A single integrated network means letters being carried efficiently and reliably, making the vital connection points which help us to get more letters delivered on target.”

The total number of road journeys undertaken by Royal Mail will be slashed, along with vehicle numbers and carbon dioxide emissions.
