TPG acquires German unaddressed mail distributor blitzpunkt
Mail, express and logistics company, TPG N.V, through its subsidiary TPG
Post Holdings (Deutschland) GmbH in Germany, has today acquired a 100%
stake in blitzpunkt GmbH (blitzpunkt), an unaddressed mail distribution
company based in eastern Germany.
blitzpunkt, which generated revenues of around EUR 10 million in 2002,
delivers 355 million leaflets and 19 million free newspapers per year. The
company gives TPG Post access to 8,000 round-based deliverers offering full
coverage to over 1.9 million households in the Saxony and East Thuringia
(Gera) regions in the former East Germany. The acquisition also establishes
a stepping stone for further regional expansion.
Harry Koorstra, Group Managing Director of TPG Post, says: “By acquiring
blitzpunkt, which covers 5% of all German households, TPG Post is
continuing its steady build-up of coverage and density in the German
unaddressed mail market. This network expansion is a key part of TPG’s
strategy to become the second largest mail company in Germany and the first
truly pan-European mail company.”
This is the company’s second acquisition in Germany this year. In January,
TPG Post acquired Werbeagentur Fischer, a market-leading unaddressed mail
distributor in South East Germany. TPG Post now has strong unaddressed
activities in the north-west, south-east and eastern parts of Germany, plus
Berlin and Baden-Würtemberg.
With this latest acquisition, TPG Post’s unaddressed mail network in
Germany now covers some 16.5 million households with around 28,500
round-based deliverers in the country. Besides unaddressed mail activities,
these unaddressed networks also deliver over 21 million addressed
magazines.
TPG Post also has addressed mail activities in Germany via EP Europost, a
joint venture between TPG Post and Hermes Versand Service, a subsidiary of
mail-order company the Otto Group. Furthermore, TPG Post has addressed city
mail networks in the western part of Germany. In addition, its subsidiary
Cendris is active in the areas of data and document management.
This contract is subject to approval by the German anti-monopoly
authorities.
