Deutsche Post PACKSTATION to be expanded even further

Due to PACKSTATION’s success during its piloting phase the parcel machines will now be making their appearances in other cities. This innovative service from Deutsche Post allows the customer to both pick up and send parcels literally around the clock. Up until now, PACKSTATION was being tested in the cities of Dortmund, Mainz, Frankfurt, Offenbach and Bad Vilbel. The primary focus this alternative service’s expansion is the Rhine-Main region as well as other metropolitan areas. Cologne, Munich, Darmstadt, Wiesbaden, Berlin and Hamburg are in the running and are currently undergoing feasibility testing for 500 machine locations.

The results of the pilot project were more than convincing: As of January 2002 more than 55,000 customers have used PACKSTATION for parcel pick-up and dispatch from a total of 90 machines. Technical stability as well as an overwhelming level of customer acceptance were the determining factors for the consideration of further locations.

Management Board member Dr. Peter E. Kruse: “Deutsche Post takes delivery in an especially innovative direction with PACKSTATION. Deutsche Post is a worldwide trailblazer when it comes to machine-based parcel posting and acceptance. This service allows us to respond to our customers’ demand for more flexibility.”

Deutsche Post is certain that this service will speak positively to mail-order and internet business. Up until now goods could be ordered 24 hours a day; PACKSTATION makes it possible – together with the customer card and a correct PIN number – to now receive these orders around the clock, seven days a week. Options like the acceptance of returns and Freeway items as well as the retrieval of COD items using an EC or Geldkarte (debit card) are already available. Other additional services are in the making.
