Citysprint off mark to buy MPC

Same-day courier service Citysprint has bought Midlands-based international courier MPC for an undisclosed sum.

London-based Citysprint, which has a depot at the Premier Trading Estate at Dartmouth Middleway, has taken over MPC’s international hub at Warwick. It refused to reveal the value of the deal. Citysprint said the acquisition would enable it to offer an international service through its 30-plus service centres in the UK.

It said the deal would lead to an improved service for the customers of both companies. Citysprint, which employs 300 people across the UK, said it would retain the 95 staff who work for MPC.

MPC is one of the largest regional international courier businesses in the UK with direct links to more than 200 countries. Ben Haynes of MPC has become the new international director of Citysprint.

Mr Haynes said: ‘In 1995 I formed MPC Midlands with the aim of creating a British-owned and operated service provider that would rival the big four – UPS, DHL, FedEx and TNT.

‘During the past seven years MPC Midlands has grown to become one of the biggest regional operators in the field.’
