US DOT extends deadline for DHL decision
The U.S. Department of Transportation announced Monday that it has set Oct. 31 as the deadline for the administrative law judge hearing the DHL Airways ownership case to reach a decision. Chief administrative law judge Ronnie L. Yoder had requested an extension until Nov. 24.
The original DOT deadline was set at Sept. 2.
The DOT said, “A further extension would unreasonably extend a proceeding that, in the public interest, should be brought to closure without undue delay.”
The order, signed by Read C. Van de Water, assistant secretary for aviation and international affairs, added that DOT sees “no reasons why this case cannot be completed on time” if all parties to the case file their documents on schedule and if the chief judge rigorously enforces those deadlines.
The probe into DHL was reopened after FedEx Corp. and United Parcel Service contended that DHL is controlled by Deutsche Post World Net, the German mail monopoly.
