DoorDash “acquihires” the Rickshaw team

US-based on demand delivery specialist DoorDash has “acquired” the found team of Rickshaw, the company that has been building a “white-label, same-day local delivery platform”. In a blog posted yesterday (14 September), DoorDash CEO and Co-founder Tony Xu described the move as an “acquihire”. DoorDash will be buying the company and integrating the Rickshaw personnel into their own engineering and product teams. While the Rickshaw operations are being wound down, the Rickshaw team will help to build up the DoorDash Drive platform.

Rickshaw’s CEO Divya Bhat said that her company had looked at raising Series A funding to expand operations – but joining DoorDash seemed a more appealing prospect and there was a “natural fit” between the teams.
