Portuguese Post ‘goes Dutch‘ with TNT
Postlog, the express division of CTT and the Portuguese national subsidiary of TNT Express, which is a leading Netherlands-based international business-to-business carrier, have launched a new joint product called XPress.
XPress gives Postlog direct access to the international market and likewise guarantees TNTs access to Portugals premier express network.
The joint services are bing piloted from Oct 7 to the end of 2002 at 17 selected outlets in northern cities. If the pilot scheme is a success, the project will go nationwide. Postlog is offering the same services as TNT, ie the ‘9Express‘ (drop off before 09.00in all major European cities), the ‘12 Express‘ (dropped before noon next day), ‘Global Express‘ (express delivery anywhere in the world) and ‘Economy Express‘ (door to door delivery within 3-4 days across Europe).
It was only a year ago that Olivier Establet, the CEO of the French Chronopost, talked of the possibility of an alliance with Postlog in the express delivery segment, although even at that stage rumour of a partnership between Postlog and TNT began to circulate. It remains to be seen how DHL Portugal will react to the new alliance. DHL recently let it be known that it was aiming for a 40% share of Portugals international courier market.
