India Post largest provider of postal services
India Post is the largest provider of postal services with 1.54 lakh post offices across the country, of which 16,476 are located in the urban areas and 1,38,443 in rural areas. Mail services are provided through 1,38,511 delivery post offices across the country. India Post has introduced Speed Net, which is an online facility to track and trace Speed Post parcels. The service is available in 120 Speed Post Centres across India.
Multipurpose Counter Machine (MPCM) facility is provided in 214 post offices in Maharashtra and Goa.The average monthly transactions on MPCM are about 11,82,000. India Post has also introduced 24 computerised customer care centres. Automatic Mail Processing Centre has been set up in Mumbai for fast sorting of unregistered mails. Other value added services are EMS Speed Post, Media Post, Business Post, Greeting Post and E-Post. India Post is now offering instant remittance of money from 185 countries in collaboration with Western Union Financial Service.
About 1,500 post offices across the country are offering money transfer services.
