Deutsche Post sole control of Securicor Distribution Ops cleared by EU

The European Commission said it has cleared the acquisition by Deutsche Post AG of sole control of Securicor Omega Holdings Ltd, which it previously jointly owned with Securicor PLC.

The commission said the deal gives rise to only limited overlaps which do not trigger competition concerns in either the UK or Ireland, which are the only member states where both companies are active in these services.

In the UK and Ireland, the market share of the combined group will remain below 10 pct. In the UK international express delivery market, Deutsche Post already has a high market share but this acquisition only increases that share by less than 1 pct.

The commission said it concluded that the change from joint control to sole control is unlikely to have an “appreciable” effect on consumers and that in any case, the combined group will face strong competitors.
