Canada's Postal workers vote in favour of strike
Canada’s postal workers voted yesterday in favour of a strike, to be called when the union judges that the time is right. Ninety-two percent of the workers endorsed a strike, with 2,500 more members voting than during a similar vote in 1997. “”The vote for this strike is the most massive in the history of our union,” said Pierre Bernier, national director of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers. “The union prefers a negotiated settlement, Bernier said. There are no plans to give notice of strike action to Canada Post before concluding that the parties are at an impasse, he added.
