DHL to move British IT jobs

DHL is mulling a cost-saving measure that would shift most of its British information technology operations to Eastern Europe.

An internal memo outlined the express carrier’s plans to outsource as many as 350 jobs in the United Kingdom, while jobs at its Basel, Switzerland operation will also be affected, according to a report by British-based ComputerWeekly.com.

DHL operates two British datacenters that handle application development, and application and operations support. DHL has 700 IT employees in the U.K., the publication reported.

The May 6 memo, from DHL’s global chief information officer, Stephen McGuckin, said that DHL will conclude a review of the plans in August.

The report said DHL is looking at potential sites in Eastern Europe for its new datacenter but has not yet made a final decision.
