Deutsche Post steps up US battle with UPS, FedEx

Deutsche Post AG, the German postal giant whose ties with a US carrier is being challenged by its American rivals, has struck back. Chief executive Klaus Zumwinkel said the company had asked European regulators to examine deals between European airlines, and US package-delivery companies FedEx Corp. and United Parcel Service Inc. that are similar to Deutsche Post’s arrangement with US airline Astar Air Cargo Inc.. FedEx and UPS are vigorously questioning Deutsche Post’s alliance with Astar, prompting the Germans to retaliate.
