FedEx announces plans for expansion in China
As part of its continued expansion in Asia, FedEx Express, a major express transportation company in the world, announced here Friday its plans to create a separate, specific division in Chinese mainland with its regional center in Shanghai.
The new regional structure will enable the company to be more focused on and responsive to the needs of its customers in Chinese mainland, said David L. Cunningham, Jr., vice-president of Asia Pacific Division for FedEx.
The new mainland structure, that will be part of the company’s overall Asia Pacific Division, is scheduled to begin operations on Dec. 1, 2003, according to David L. Cunningham, Jr.
The Company will retain its Asia Pacific Headquarters in Hong Kong and has stressed that its Hong Kong and Taiwan local market operations will not be impacted by the changes. In fact, FedEx has recently expanded service offerings in both locations and is more committed than ever to expanding its capabilities in both markets.
Since entering the mainland market in 1984, FedEx has expanded its service to 220 cities in mainland, with plans to increase that number by 100 over the next five years.
The company serves the Chinese mainland with 11 flights weekly through three major gateways: Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen and provides access to cities throughout Asia via the FedEx AsiaOne network.
