US healthcare logistics provider MedSpeed opts for Descartes route planning and management platform

US-based MedSpeed will be using Descartes delivery route planning solutions to manage its healthcare logistics network.

MedSpeed’s national logistics network includes more than 100 distribution points in 29 states and more than 1,000 logistics service representatives (LSRs) delivering patient- and business-critical materials and supplies to healthcare organizations across the United States.

Jake Crampton, CEO of MedSpeed, commented: “Descartes’ leading-edge solutions for comprehensive delivery routing and dispatch will be part of our MedConnect technology platform and enhance how we service our customers. Descartes’ flexible technology platform can integrate with our platform as we scale to meet our rapidly growing business and changing healthcare environment.”

In a statement issued yesterday (14 February), Descartes said that its routing and execution solutions support the “strategic, tactical and operational needs of fleet and logistics operators” – because they  “optimally determine service areas and visit frequency, plan daily routes, and manage delivery execution with integrated real-time dispatch and tracking capabilities”. They can also analyze planned versus actual performance and better target areas for service improvement and cost reduction.
