Czech telecommunication companies to supply new DHL centre

Czech companies Cesky Telecom and Pragonet will probably supply part of telecommunications services to the new computer centre of courier company DHL in Prague.

sources say the two companies had won a tender declared by DHL, but no agreements have been signed.

“It is a matter of a few days,” the source said.

Telecom and Pragonet, which declined to comment, could earn dozens of millions of crowns a year owing to the order, experts said.

Telecom runs the largest Czech telecommunication network, has large-capacity connection to foreign networks and has recently opened branches in neighbouring countries.

Pragonet, which runs an optical network in Prague and other Czech towns, is a unit of Deutsche Telecom.

DHL plans to invest €0.5 billion in its new European computer hub which should launch operation next May and employ 400 staff by end-2004.
