Emirates Post and Deutsche Post cement strategic alliance

“Our strategic alliance with Deutsche Post embraces several business areas, including mail consolidation through the GLOBALMATCH network of hubs, a concept that is transforming mail logistics globally,” said Abdulla Al Daboos, Director General, Emirates Post. “We are an active member of this network and are keen to take this relationship further by promoting GLOBALMATCH, a dynamic new concept that is helping postal operators achieve savings in time and money, while at the same time introducing automation, speed and tracking facility in mail delivery operations. We are positive the new agreement will lead to further gains on both sides and strengthen this crucial partnership.”

Deutsche Post’s GLOBALMATCH is aggressively pushing ahead with plans to open new hubs and gain new business from postal administrations by offering bulk transportation rates at more advantageous prices than the rates normally available to individual operators.

The Dubai Airport Mail Transit Hub, established two years ago, has emerged as the regional mail hub for mail bound for the GCC, the rest of the Middle East, North and East Africa, the Far East, Australia and Indian Subcontinent. The Dubai airport hub has entered into service agreements with major postal companies, including British Royal Mail and GATS, a subsidiary of Swiss Post International. The total mail handled by the hub in 2003 is set to cross 1,000 tonnes, an increase of 70% over the 2002 figures.

The new agreement between Emirates Post and Deutsche Post supports and underpins the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in March 2003, when a delegation led by Dr. Klaus Zumwinkel. Chairman of the Management Board and CEO of Deutsche Post, and Mr. Klaus Knappik, Chairman of the Divisional Board, Global Mail, Deutsche Post, visited Dubai. The MOU agreed to pursue enhanced business cooperation, including expanded scope the mail transit hub at Dubai airport.

“Emirates Post and Deutsche Post are committed to actively promoting the mail hub concept and collaborating on several other business projects,” Mr. Al Daboos added. “Our strategic partnership has laid the foundation for a strong business relationship based on common objectives. We value this partnership because Deutsche Post has gained the reputation of being one of the most dynamic postal organizations in the world. The GLOBALMATCH project has been a front-runner in mail transportation solutions by enabling postal administrations to achieve both significant cost reductions and service improvements.”
