Nigerian Postal Service shuts down courier firms

Nigerian Postal Service, Courier Regulatory Department has sealed up two illegal courier companies operating in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The two companies which fall under the hammer of NIPOST are, Dominion Express Ltd and SkyBorne Express Ltd.

Briefing journalists in Lagos on how the operation was carried out, Senior Assistant Post Master General, Mr Simon Emeje, said his deparment through a surveillance was able to fish out the two illegal courier companies because their name was missing out of the courier companies in PortHarcourt who were licenced by NIPOST.

Emeje, who said though the two companies are not the only one engaging in illegal courier business in the state, promised that his department would do anything within its power to sanitise courier business in Nigeria. He said items such as Airway bills, proof of delivery, tariff, scale as well as other ones found in the premises of the affected companies suggested that they are operating illegally without approval from NIPOST.

He said other states of the federation would soon be combed by his men to checkmate the activities of those operating illegal courier business in the country.

“We have evidence to prove that Skyborne Express Limited located at 19, Filling Station Road and Dominion Express Limited opposite NITEL in Ahoada Local Goverment, PortHarcourt, Rivers State operate illegal courier business because of the evidence found on them,” Emeje said.

While advising those that are interested in the business to comply with the rules and regulation set down by NIPOST, Emeje promised that its department is ready to protect the interest of genuine operators.
