The President, the Retailer and the Postal Service…
An article published by The Washington Post has claimed that US President Donald Trump “has personally pushed US Postmaster General Megan Brennan to double the rate the Postal Service charges Amazon.com and other firms to ship packages”.
The article said that it had been given this information by “three people familiar with their conversations”. It also alleged that Brennan “has told the president that the Amazon relationship is beneficial for the Postal Service and gave him a set of slides that showed the variety of companies, in addition to Amazon, that also partner for deliveries”.
In April, President Trump signed an executive order mandating a review of USPS.
The Washington Post noted that “few US companies have drawn Trump’s ire as much as Amazon” and “for more than three years, Trump has fumed publicly and privately about the giant commerce and services company and its founder Jeffrey P. Bezos”. One should note, however, that The Washington Post is not a completely disinterested observer: Jeff Bezos – as the article does point out – owns the newspaper.
