TNT India moves into new niches

Express distribution company, TNT India Pvt Ltd – subsidiary of Netherlands based TPG NV – has embarked on a value addition drive. The new focus is on segments including express linked logistics and life sciences logistics. Under express linked logistics, the company is looking at offering services such as repair and return, break bulk solutions and tech courier as a cost effective strategy. The company has started doing projects for a few multi nationals in India. Speaking to FE, TNT India sales marketing and customer service head Sanjiv Kathuria said, “With the express business getting crowded and intense price competition, we need to offer new niches for better value proposition and branding”. Bulk Break Service is a special solution targeted at bulk exporters and importers. For exporters, Bulk Break Service offers distribution of a bulk consignment to multiple nations or destinations. For importers, the service offers to break the bulk consignment and redistribute the contents to the destination depots. Tech courier services offer basic tech support as a value addition to an express delivery. Repair and Return Service offers a complete solution including sending the customers machinery and components overseas for repair, customs clearance as well as collection of the machinery after repair and return delivery to the customer. Till recently, TNTs life sciences logistics service – Medpak – catered to just the outbound market. Now, the service has been extended to the domestic market and the company distributes clinical research material within the country. In the last one year, the local market has grown with clinical research organisations and pharma companies setting up labs and research facilities. TNT has also developed a special packaging for life sciences products for the Indian market, which is at least 20 per cent cheaper than imported packaging material. Interestingly in terms of express link logistics and life sciences logistics, the company has a long term relationship with customers ranging from one to two years. Currently, TNT India is offering Medpak service for four clinical trial projects ranging from 8 months to two years, Mr Kathuria said.
