UK Royal Mail pay agreement reached

Talks aimed at resolving a long running dispute over pay and working practices at the Royal Mail have ended in agreement.

A proposed package will be recommended to the executive of the Communication Workers Union.

The two sides have been holding talks for weeks in a bid to resolve issues including the scrapping of second deliveries.

A joint statement said: “The Royal Mail and the CWU are pleased to report that we have reached a conclusion to our talks.

“The CWU will be recommending a package to their executive and both parties have agreed to refrain from discussing details publicly in order to respect internal consultative processes. Further details will be issued next week.”

The talks covered pay, agreement to move to single deliveries, and the London Weighting allowance.

The agreement raises hopes of improved industrial relations in the Royal Mail followed a series of wildcat strikes in October which crippled deliveries.
