General Logistics Systems (GLS) has named Ivan Hofmann as CEO of GLS US, with immediate effect.
A 35-year veteran of the transportation industry, Hofmann began his professional career after graduating from Ohio University in 1970. In 1985 he joined Roadway Package Systems (RPS), now FedEx Ground, as Vice President of Operations, later becoming President and CEO. After the acquisition by FedEx he was appointed Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of FedEx Ground until his retirement in 2004.
Following retirement, he co-founded ETC & Associates, a transportation consulting firm. He also serves on several Boards of Directors, primarily for transportation related companies.
In his new role, which will be part-time, Hofmann will report to Rico Back, CEO Royal Mail plc.
“We are very pleased that we were able to win Ivan for this position, as his experience will help us to scale up and further strengthen our US business,” said Back. “Ivan will also support the GLS Group in expanding its business activities in the US.”
“I am looking forward to building and expanding GLS’ presence in the US within the strategy of a careful and focused geographic expansion,” added Hofmann. “At the same time I will oversee the integration of GSO and Postal Express which were acquired in October 2016 and April 2017 respectively.”
