Spring UK moves forward with new management team

The UK division of Spring Global Delivery Solutions has declared that its management team has been “re-energised” thanks to a string of senior appointments.

Steve Ferguson, who has been appointed the Managing Director of Spring UK as part of the transformation, said that recent key recruitments and substantial investment underlined the importance of the UK to the global operations of Spring Global Delivery Solutions, which is wholly owned by Post NL.

“It’s no secret that Spring has, like many other post and parcel businesses, been redefining the way that it does business in the face of a continued fall in mail volumes across the globe,” said Ferguson.

“However, we count ourselves fortunate that the process of re-evaluation has coincided with a sizeable rise in consignments which we handle on behalf of online retailers both large and small.

“Being able to recruit individuals with vast experience of dealing with these very issues not only bodes well for the future but has already made us a far more able, dynamic and agile company.

“That’s quite important because we feel that, as a broker – dealing with international deliveries via the most reliable networks – our role is quite different to many other logistics operators.

“Our growth in business in recent months is down to savvy shippers recognising that good parcel delivery is more than just about price but the kind of quality service we offer which adds value to what they do.

“In a mature e-commerce market such as the UK, it’s a subtle but a significant shift in attitude and one that we’re well placed to profit from. ”

Ferguson joined Spring UK after nearly five years with parcel and carrier manager Global Freight Solutions (GFS), where he had been director both for business development and international sales.

Two former GFS colleagues – Gary Redfern-Smith and Craig Lee – become Spring UK’s new Head of IT and Head of Channel respectively. Robert Dundas, meanwhile, takes up the post of Head of Sales and Marketing after four years in a similar role with Skynet Worldwide Express.

Jason Love has also been appointed Lane Manager after spending more than a dozen years working with Aramex, Nightline and Yodel.

Ferguson said the round of recent appointments meant that Spring UK now employed a total of 80 staff out of Spring’s worldwide complement of 1,300 across 13 offices across the globe.
