Uwe Doerken appointed executive chairman of DHL USA
Effective January 1, 2004, Uwe Doerken will become Executive Chairman of DHL USA. He takes over from Carl Donaway, who has held this position since the merger of Airborne with DHL this summer.
Carl Donaway will be leaving the company in early 2004 to pursue other business opportunities. Mr. Donaway led the Airborne organization through many years of successful development in the US market, culminating in a historic merger announcement this summer. Carl Donaway said: “I am very pleased with the rapid progress we have made in our integration. We have a strong management team in place to execute a successful merger and the resources at hand to make the new DHL a powerful contender for express and logistics business in the US. With DHL, the former Airborne organization is now contributing to building a new major force in the US express and logistics market.”
Uwe Doerken, member of Deutsche Post World Net’s executive board is responsible for DHL Express in all markets outside of Europe. The former McKinsey consultant has been at the forefront of the international expansion strategy of Deutsche Post World Net for 13 years and took over as Chairman and CEO of DHL Worldwide Express in 2000. Uwe Doerken, now taking on the additional responsibility as Executive Chairman of DHL USA said: “With the strong presence of the merged DHL and Airborne organizations in the US and the resources of DHL’s worldwide leading network, American express and logistics customers can look forward to a strong new force to fulfill all their needs for transportation, distribution and value added services.”
John Fellows will continue to lead the regional and the US management team of DHL as Chief Executive Officer and to implement the merger with the former Airborne organization. “With the full commitment of the worldwide DHL organization and the DPWN group, DHL USA has all the necessary resources at its fingertips to execute a successful merger with the former Airborne organization,” Fellows said.
