Nigeria Post up for Federal Governments 48-hour mail delivery directive
Staff of the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) have been urged to gird their loins for the Federal Governments 48-hour mail delivery directive as the establishment has evolved strategies to achieve the target.
Addressing NIPOST staff in Abuja on the corporations 2004 Action Plan, the Post-Master General, Malam Abubakar Musa Argungu, said though NIPOST achieved 80% success in its 72-hour delivery target last year for letters posted to any part of the country, the aim this year was to surpass that record.
Our aim this year is to achieve 90 per cent of the government directive, Argungu said, adding that already NIPOST had concluded plans to computerise its operations across the country to meet the target.
The computerisation, which will be completed before the third quarter of 2004 is meant to enhance effectiveness, efficiency and competitiveness of NIPOST in the emerging communication order, he said.
He added: computerisation of the post offices will enable NIPOST to render services such as trans-cash, pension payment to rural dwellers which are traditional to the post while NETPOST provides most of the sophisticated information technology (IT) based service.

Argungu called on the staff to brace up for the challenges ahead, stressing what is required of us in the New Year is dedication and diligence to ensure that our mission of making NIPOST one of the best postal services in the world is realised.
