SCB signs Thailand Post Office agreement
Customers of Siam Commercial Bank (SCB) will be able to conduct basic bank transactions at more than 1,200 post offices nationwide by the third quarter of this year.
The country’s fourth largest bank signed an agreement with Thailand Post to set up bank branches at the latter’s post offices – to boost SCB’s customer base and reduce operational costs.
Customers will be able to make deposits and withdrawals, transfer money and submit and receive banking documents. They will also be able to pay bills.
The bank has yet to finalise the fees it will charge at the postoffice branches.
SCB president Khunying Jada Wattanasiritham said yesterday the bank was developing information technology to connect the postoffice branches with the bank’s main branch.
“The key purpose of this service is to access more customers. There are plenty of post office branches and they are better able to reach customers than SCB is in some areas,” she said.
The bank has six million customers and more than 500 branches.
