Japanese Govt greenlights 17 firms for mail delivery operations
A Ministry of Posts council have approved the entry of 17 firms into the letter delivery service, enabling them to join the 21 other companies that already have been approved to engage in these operations under limited circumstances on April 1.
Of the 17 firms that were given the go-ahead Tuesday, 13, including Nippon Express Co, are planning to offer services in the city of Yokohama. The city government there is expected to allow private businesses to deliver documents between its offices.
Also on April 1, the approximately 71,000 agents like liquor stores across Japan that accept parcels for delivery will be allowed to handle payments as well as packages sent c.o.d.
