Amazon is building logistics centre in Bremen which will house 277 delivery vans
The property group Goodman is building a new logistics centre in Bremen for Amazon due to be completed this autumn..
The centre will be around 12,500 sqm and a multi-storey car park are being built on a 38,000 sqm site at the Bremen freight village.
Bernd Gschaider, Director of Amazon Logistics in Germany, says: “We are very pleased to open a distribution centre in Bremen. More than 20 years of logistical competence, technological progress and investment in transport infrastructure have gone into this building. This enables Amazon to offer customers faster and more flexible delivery options.”
In the first phase, Amazon will create about 130 jobs, however eventually more than 400 drivers will be responsible for delivering parcels to customers. That’s why, in addition to the logistics centre, Goodman is building a multi-storey car park for 277 of Amazon’s own delivery vans, this will offer faster access to the company’s fleet for more efficient last mile delivery. The building will include 1,200 sqm of office mezzanine and a 3,700 sqm canopy.
Since 2006 Goodman has developed more than 1.2 million sqm of high-quality logistics centres for Amazon in Europe. Starting in Leipzig, Goodman has gone on to work with Amazon on projects in locations such as Cologne, Duisburg and Hamburg, among others in Germany, and abroad in France, Spain, the United States of America, the United Kingdom and Australia. The new building will be the 14th logistics location developed by Goodman in Europe for Amazon.
Christof Prange, Head of Business Development at Goodman, says: “Each Amazon facility is designed to ensure that items are delivered, sorted, picked, packed and distributed to customers in the most cost and time efficient manner.
Therefore, Bremen as a transport hub with its excellent connections to shipping, rail and road traffic is of enormous strategic importance to our customers. This is underscored by the fact that we have experience in developing logistics properties for a wide variety of industries: including contract logistics, the light industrial and automotive sectors and urban distribution. When planning our properties, we therefore pay particular attention to the flexible use of a logistics complex”.
GVZ Bremen is a well-known location for Goodman and its customers – in recent years the company has developed around 150,000 sqm of logistics space here. Situated at the Neustadt harbour and northeast of the A 281, the 470 hectare GVZ Bremen is the second largest of its kind in Europe. More than 150 companies are currently based there. Recently the foundation stone was laid for a 30,000 sqm building for B+S GmbH Logistik und Dienstleistungen.
