Rhenus expands network in eastern and central Germany
Rhenus Logistics has opened a new operations facility for its Air and Ocean division at Leipzig/Halle airport in Saxony.
The new facility, which opened on 1 June, will see Rhenus handling international air transport shipments, as well as all the import and export customs formalities. Even though the new facility is located within Leipzig airport, customers are able to book services in the ocean freight sector and combined transport operations.
The facility will specialise in connections to the Americas, the Asia-Pacific region and South Africa.
Stefan Schwind, managing director of Rhenus Air & Ocean Germany, commented: “Leipzig/Halle Airport registered growth of 7% in its air freight volumes in 2018, which is far above the average figure. This growth potential is the main reason why Rhenus has decided to set up business operations there. Because of its central location, it’s also an ideal addition to our network within Germany. The site is strategically important for us, thanks to the good international connections too.”
Leipzig/Halle Airport is one of the five largest cargo airports in Europe and the second-largest freight hub in Germany after Frankfurt/Main.
Rhenus Air & Ocean operates 14 of its own business locations in Germany, including the groupage freight gateway at Hilden and the air freight gateway in Frankfurt.
