TNT Logistics Spain wins EMI Music Contract
TNT Logistics in Spain has announced that it has won a long-term contract with EMI Music Spain, part of the EMI Group plc.
TNT Logistics will take over EMI’s logistics and distribution activities, which are currently managed in-house in Pozuelo de Alarcón, Madrid where EMI stores music CDs and other materials and prepares the orders for its clients in Spain and Portugal. The work involves picking, packing and shipping of EMI’s CDs, music cassettes and DVDs and shipping them to the sales point in the Iberian Peninsula.
Due to the changing business requirements and sales volumes in the music industry in Europe and in Spain in particular, it became evident to EMI that nowadays it is crucial to have a reliable and flexible partner which can ensure that the company’s CDs are available in the store on time for sale to the fans. For this reason EMI Music decided to outsource their existing logistics operations in Pozuelo to TNT Logistics Spain.
In order to create flexibility for its customer, TNT Logistics will move the operation to its Seseña warehouse, one of its multi-user sites of more than 65.000 square meters, within several weeks. The Seseña warehouse holds a total of 14 clients and a staff of 220 people. In this environment it will be easier to adapt to different market volumes and peak workloads of a hit-driven business such as music. TNT Logistics offers a unique flexibility and value to EMI, which is adapting itself to the rapid market changes in the music and entertainment industry.
EMI and its artists will benefit from TNT Logistics’s approach which will ensure that their new albums will be released on time and in the music store shelves ready for their fans.
The operation managed by TNT Logistics is a semi-automated solution with conveyor system and operates with approximately 17 people. This solution will be enabled by a new developed IT system using RF technology to get the highest quality standard and speed in the process of picking and dispatch.
