Sales by Baltic logistic system Vilnius surge 27percent

Baltic Logistic System Vilnius, the leading Lithuania’s logistic company, reported sales of 8.2 million litas (EUR 2.38 mln) for the first six months of 2004, a surge of 27 percent from the January-to-June period of previous year.

The company, which provides parcel delivery services under the trade name of Bizpak, boosted its international parcel shipments by 59 percent, to 5,600 parcels from 3,500 in the first half of 2003. On domestic market, the company delivered 498,000 parcels, a rise of 42 percent, in year-on-year terms.

Gintaras Bingelis, Baltic Logistic System sales and marketing director for the Baltic region, attributed a rise in international parcel shipments to Lithuania’s accession to the European Union (EU).

“Disappearance of borders between the EU countries and elimination of customs procedures prompted businessmen to opt for road transport for the delivery of parcels, which resulted in a particularly significant rise in parcel flows between Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. The parcel traffic between these countries soared by 90 percent”, Bingelis added.

Baltic Logistic System Vilnius sees its revenues on Bizpak services rising by 30 percent, to 15.7 million litas this year. Moreover, the courier company expects to deliver over 1 million parcels in 2004.

In late May Swedish Royal Post Group sold its Baltic Logistic System International businesses in Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Poland and Russia to La Poste, French post office group.
