Russian Post gives stodgy money orders a boost

Russian Post says implementation of the CyberDengui or Cyber Money Order program has significantly cut the delivery time and cost of money orders.

The Cyber Money Order scheme has reportedly enabled the post to cut the fees for postal money orders by 35percent on average. With CyberDengui, money order forms and payment data are transmitted via computers.

The technology has let the Russian Post implement a Single Money Order System that functions as the main center for processing money order-related data and exchanges data with customer service outlets using online terminals.

Intermediate stations, where information from paper files and floppies are inputted into the system, are hooked up to the main center electronically.

The Russian Post expects the number of online terminals to reach 10,000 by the end of this year. To service remote parts of the country, the post is using hybrid techniques involving both electronic and traditional delivery methods.

The international exchange of money orders is also carried out with Ukraine and Kazakhstan.

The post plans to extend the Cyber Money Order program to all the CIS countries as well as France, Japan and China by the end of the year.
