DHL appoints UK & Ireland Environmental Manager

DHL has appointed Nicola Phillips as Environmental Manager for its UK and Ireland Express and Freight operations. Nicola joins DHL from an environmental management role at the BBC where she was responsible for delivering large-scale environmental risk-management projects. In the newly created DHL position, Nicola will be responsible for leading the company towards its goal of ISO14001 accreditation by 2007.

Nicola will manage the strategic implementation of all DHL’s environmental programmes which include the implementation of a formal Environmental Management System (ISO14001) throughout 200 operational sites, development of a comprehensive environmental monitoring system to provide enhanced public reporting, extensive staff environmental awareness training, and a programme of customer partnerships.

Under Nicola’s leadership, DHL will increase its number of specially trained environmental officers to 200 by 2007, and will focus on achieving targets such as reduction in emissions from vehicles and the roll-out of a strategic waste management system by 2005.

Speaking of her new appointment, Nicola Phillips said: “I am excited to have been given this challenging opportunity at DHL and look forward to building an award-wining environmental management system. My primary focus will be to integrate environmental management into the operational heart of the business but, over time, environmental management will play an increasing role in creating competitive advantage and forming partnerships with our customers”.
