DHL announces sixth new sort facility in Phoenix, AZ – continues to strengthen US network

DHL, today announced the opening of a new Regional Sort Center in Phoenix, Arizona. The facility is the sixth of seven new Regional Sort Centers being added to the DHL network as part of a $1.2 billion investment program launched by DHL in June 2004. In the last month, the company announced the opening of new Regional Sort Centers in Denver, Colorado; Salt Lake City, Utah; Memphis, Tennessee; Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and Erie, Pennsylvania.

"DHL is dedicated to shaking up the U.S. express delivery and logistics market and providing businesses and consumers with greater choice and more competition," said Fred Beljaars, Executive Vice President for Operations at DHL. "The new Phoenix facility is part of our $1.2 billion investment program to build a more robust DHL network with the capacity, connectivity and comprehensive national footprint to deliver on that commitment."

"It is encouraging to see major companies like DHL expand and invest in Arizona. With this new investment, Arizona will benefit by the creation of new jobs and increased revenue to the tax base," said Senator John McCain.

"Phoenix is a great place to live and work, and I am excited to welcome DHL to the West Valley. DHL's presence in District 7 will continue to improve the economy by generating new employment opportunities for our residents," said Councilman Doug Lingner.

DHL is investing $3 million in the 20,293 square foot Phoenix Regional Sort Center, which will immediately create 38 jobs in the local community. Other key facts about the new facility include:

— The center will contribute approximately $360,000 annually to the local economy, through employee payroll and taxes

— The sort center will handle a variety of shipments, including letter and parcel items, palletized and container freight

— While DHL already provides service to every ZIP Code in the country, the Phoenix Regional Sort Center will provide DHL with an expanded footprint for 1-day ground services across Arizona and into parts of Southern California

— The facility, which will operate six days a week, has a sort capacity of 4,000 letter pieces per hour/3,500 parcels per hour

— The sort center will serve 8 DHL service stations in the region

— The Phoenix facility will begin operations on Friday, October 29th

The new regional sort center is the latest addition to DHL's growing presence in the Phoenix area. Following the opening of the new sort center, DHL will employ a total of approximately 1,900 people from the local community. DHL facilities in the Phoenix area already include the company's state-of-the-art Global Data Center located in Scottsdale, a customer call center in Tempe and three local pickup and delivery centers, as well as an air shipment facility at the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

DHL's new regional facility in Phoenix will benefit DHL customers in the region by expanding overnight delivery services throughout Arizona and enhancing connectivity between the East and West Coasts through a key southern route. The facility will also directly benefit the local community in Phoenix by creating local jobs and providing a boost to the local economy.

The Phoenix facility, along with five new Regional Sort Centers announced by the company last month and the additional center that will be announced by the end of the year, will increase DHL's ground delivery product capacity by 60%, enhance network connectivity and improve service levels.

By the end of 2004, DHL's expanded Ground Network will include:

— 19 Regional Sort Centers

— Over 7,950 truck runs per week

Beyond 2005, DHL plans to add five more regional sort facilities and to synchronize all 24 facilities with networks in Canada and Mexico to provide one fully integrated North American network.
