Brazil ECT launches new services to increase market share

Brazilian state-run postal service company Empresa Brasileira de Correios e Telegrafos (ECT) will launch on November 4, 2004 the new services named Sedex Hoje and Sedex Mundi, aiming to increase its market share.

ECT’s Sedex Hoje service envisages deliveries in the same day and will involve the company in a very saturated business segment in the country. Sedex Mundi will help the company start express deliveries to 215 countries worldwide from the present 170, thus making the company compete with large international firms, operating in Brazil.

The state-owned company is monopolist in Brazil in the postal services segment but has serious rivals in the express deliveries segment. ECT registered a total 113 million deliveries in 2003.
