Belgian De Post/La Poste To Restructure Post Offices 2005

Belgian postal services company De Post/La Poste plans to restructure its post offices in 2005 in order to increase their efficiency.

A total 300 of its 1,300 post offices were profitable in 2004. The offices registered a total 200 mln euro (USD260.5 mln) loss.

The company plans to expand the distribution of its products via banks, supermarkets and news stands.

De Post/La Poste (www.post.be) posted a profit of 36 mln euro ($46.9 mln) in 2004, compared to a 64 mln euro (USD83.3 mln) loss for 2003.

Currently, the company has 37,920 full-time employees. It services some 3.7 billion consignments annually.
