Czech parcel traffic grows by 14 pct yearly
Parcel traffic in the Czech Republic grows by some 14 percent a year as companies delivering parcels handle about 150,000 units a day, CTK learnt in a poll of the companies today.
Annual sales from this activity reach an estimated Kc4-5 billion a year.
DPD chief executive Daniel Mares said parcel traffic among companies prevailed as some 60 percent of Czech companies have parcels delivered. Abroad, the rate is about 90 percent.
The usual weight of parcels is 8-10 kilos. Finished products such as information technologies, electronics, mobile phones, textiles, footwear and sports goods prevail.
“But we basically deliver anything that fits in the category of parcels,” said Milan Loidl, marketing manager at PPL.
Companies usually set the weight ceiling at 31.5 kilos, because it is typically up to a single person to handle the delivery.
The biggest players on the inland parcel market are state- owned Ceska posta, DPD and PPL. On the international market, their key rivals are DHL, TNT, UPS and Fedex.
