DHL to build distribution centre in Dutch Drachten
Global express and logistics company DHL, a unit of German postal services group Deutsche Post AG, will build a distribution centre in Drachten, northern Netherlands, the mayor of the municipality of Smallingerland, Pieter van der Zaag, said on November 11, 2005.
For the purpose, DHL has bought a site of 40,000 sq m in the industrial zone Azeven Zuid near Drachten. The distribution centre will create jobs for 200 employees.
The plan for the construction of the distribution centre was announced almost two years ago. (Editor’s note: DHL will open 350 service points in the Netherlands in January 2006. These are manned counters, mainly in supermarkets, train stations and shops, where private clients and companies can bring and take packages. DHL has service points in seven European countries, including England, Sweden, Spain and Italy, according to the Dutch News Digest.)
